The Oahe Zap opened up a 3-1 lead after the first two innings at home Monday against the Spearfish Sasquatch, but were blown out 15-3 to start a four game set at Hyde Stadium.
Vince Polizzi wasted no time getting the home crowd excited as he hit a two run homer in the bottom of the first to take a 2-0 lead. It was matched with a solo shot from Aiden Johnson to lead off the bottom of the second. But it was all the runs the Zap were able to get. Spearfish made it 3-2 after three innings and then scored three runs in the fourth, three in the sixth, four in the seventh and another three in the ninth to take a 15-3 advantage to win the opening game of the series. Ty Farwell and Emiliano Curiel each had two of the seven hits in total, but couldn’t get multiple hits in an inning to score more runs. Oahe had three errors with two of the 15 runs being unearned in the loss. Payton Fort of Spearfish went 4-5 with a double and five RBIs Lucas Terilli went 3-5 driving in three runs. Oahe used five pitchers as TJ Eikenberry was the only pitcher to not allow a run in his outing.
Oahe falls to 4-8 while Spearfish improves to 7-6. Game two of the four game set is tonight at 6:05 at Hyde Stadium in Pierre.
