The Stanley County Buffalo Hall of Fame Selection Committee has picked five individuals to be the newest members of the Buffalo Hall of Fame as Lindsey Brown, Tate Gabriel, Larry Harmon, Jodi Owen and Dena Deering will be inducted later this month.
Brown, the first member named to the Hall of Fame graduated in 2002 and was a three sport athlete in volleyball, basketball and golf. She established herself as the best female golfer in Stanley County history. She played golf at South Dakota State as the Jacks transitioned to Division I.
Gabriel was a four sport athlete graduating in 1998. He played football and baseball, wrestled and ran track making an all-state appearance on the football team, regional wrestling champion and qualified for three state track meets. Gabriel played football at Dakota Wesleyan being a four year starter and also ran at DWU winning three conference titles and holds two school records.
Harmon is a 1991 Stanley County graduate and guided Stanley County to back-to-back football state championship appearances as the quarterback. Harmon went to South Dakota State where he played safety and special teams. He won a national championship as an assistant coach with D-II Northwest Missouri State and then three D-III titles with Mary Hardin Baylor.
Owen graduated in 1988 and was a gymnast, basketball player and track athlete. She was the first girls track champion in school history winning the 110 meter hurdles in the 1988 state meet. Owen was a part of the 1988 State All-Tournament Team in gymnastics.
Deering graduated in 1982 as a two sport athlete as she was the first female track and field athlete to score at state track meet and was the first to win a state track championship. Deering was also a four year varsity member for basketball, but she put a stamp on women’s track and field for Stanley County. One of the best field event, especially thrower for the Buffaloes. She won four Little Cnetral Athletic Conference championships in the shot put, a three time Three Rivers Conference champion, a three time Region champ and a 1980 state champion.
The 2025 induction ceremony will be held on Saturday, June 21 during the All-School Reunion in Fort Pierre following a noon luncheon. All alumni and Buffalo fans are invited to attend. You can contact John Duffy at 605-280-2559 for more information.
