Area athletes would wrap up shooting at the Clay Target League State Championships in both trap and skeet shooting over the weekend at Aberdeen with several taking home a state championship.
In the skeet shooting Pierre would finish as a team in second place with a total of 451 points while Stanley County would take third at 430. Belle Fourche would win the team state title in skeet with a 477 in total. Wyatt Mortensen of Stanley County would win the varsity male state championship edging out Pierre’s Treyson Stout and Chamberlain’s Chase McQuirk as Mortenson would score a 98 while both Stout and McQuirk would reach 97. Pierre’s Megan Rose would place second in the JV female category scoring a 76 while teammate Kaylee Baluert would shoot a 66 for fourth place. Gavin Lachnit in the novice male division would tie for second with a 65 overall.
In trap shooting on Sunday, Pierre’s Megan Rose would tie for sixth in the varsity female division while Levi Swartz was tied for sixth in the JV male division. Ella Oxford in the novice female had the highest finish for any of the Pierre shooters as she would place fourth. Kaylee Blauert was ninth in the JV female and Jackson Sleger was ninth in the novice male division as both would get a top ten finish. Max Bogenhagen would shoot an 82 to finished tied for 21st as the highest male varsity finisher
