Pierre Post 8 would not be able to make the full comeback, dropping its second straight game at the Veterans Classic in Rapid City with a 9-7 loss to Post 22 18U.
Post 22 18U is not a part of the senior legion and does not count towards the standings, but the win for Post 22 finished Pierre off at 2-2 in pool play. Pierre opened up with a 2-0 lead in the top of the first with an RBI infield single from Porter Hunsley and JJ Bucholz. Hudson Stoeser with an RBI ground rule double made it 3-0 and Will Danburg had a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0 in the second. However, six runs would score in the bottom of the second for Post 22 18U to take a 6-4 lead and added another three runs in the fourth to extend the advantage out to 9-4. Bridger Babcock would get hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the sixth to make it 9-5, but Pierre failed to cash in multiple runs with the bases loaded and nobody out in the inning. Pierre loaded the bases again in the seventh and scored two runs as Carter Schiefelbein had an RBI single and Babcock with a bases loaded walk to make it 9-7, but Pierre failed to drive in the tying run in the seventh. Dawson Getz had another two hits in the loss and settled down the game on the mound as he went four and one third innings of relief allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits, two walks and four strikeouts after Hudson Schaffer was unable to get out of the second allowing six runs on three hits with five walks and two hit batters.
Pierre is now 3-5 on the season and is awaiting the opponent on Sunday after Saturday’s games conclude. Coverage of the game will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
