Pierre Post 8 put up a fight against the Post 22 Hardhats in Rapid City Friday night at the Veterans Classic but would fall 3-2 in eight innings.
Pierre is now 2-1 in the tournament, but struck first for the lead in the top of the second. Dawson Getz led off with a triple and was scored on an RBI hit from Cooper Terwilliger. Nolan Peterson would make it 2-0 with a two out RBI as the Eights held the 2-0 lead for the half inning. The Hardhats answered scoring on an error and getting an RBI groundout from Dexter Steen. The game remained tied until the bottom of the eighth when Blayn Hunt had the RBI walk-off hit with the bases loaded to propel Post 22 to a 23-1-1 record and 5-0 in South Dakota games. While not factoring into the decision, Ridge Leimbach was outstanding for the Eights on the mound allowing the two runs, one earned on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts in six and two thirds inning.
Post is now 2-1 in the tournament and after Miles City’s win Saturday morning to move to 4-0 will keep the Eights from getting the help they need to try and still win the pool. Sunday’s game will be determined after Saturday’s results. Pierre finishes pool play 3:00 Central time against the Post 22 18U squad. The game is on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
