The Class B Golf State Tournament is into the second day and plenty of area individuals are in contention while also looking to win a team state title in Watertown.
For the boys tournament, Gavin Colson tied for fourth after the first day shooting a one over par, 73 at the Cattail Crossing Golf Course. Colson is just two shots back of clubhouse leader Alfie Henderson of Flandreau. The Chargers as a team is in seventh place at 23 over par, 239 after the first day. Sully Buttes is just two shots back of fifth while Hanson leads at just nine over par as a team. Wesley Wittler would be 10 over par 82, Jonas Olson would shoot an 84 and Lincoln Olson a 96. Miller’s Oliver Fritzsche tied for 11th in the first day at just three over par, 73 while teammates Derek Brueggeman would be at an 84, Jorryn Heilman an 88 and Luke Norden at a 103. The Rustlers are in 13th place after the first day at 31 over par, 247. Stanley County’s Ian Schweitzer is tied for 33rd at eight over par, 80, just six shots back of a top ten spot. Teammate Wyatt Mortenson is just a shot behind him at nine over par, 81. Canyon Garnos of Lyman would shoot a 95, Bodie Whitney of Jones County a 96 and Jaxon Krause of Potter County a 100.
On the girls side, three area golfers are in the top 10 of the first day as Miller’s Jayce Pugh is second, just one shot back of Brynn Roehrich of Clark/Willow Lake, the clubhouse leader at the Prairie Winds Golf Course as Pugh is one over par, 73. Teammate Kaihlyn Anderberg is tied for ninth with Sully Buttes’ Olivia Olson at 16 over par, 88. Sydney Asmus is at 97 and Tayler Brueggeman is at 108 after the first day to round out Miller who is second place in the team score, just one shot back of Dell Rapids St. Mary’s as the Rustlers are 42 over par, 258 and St. Mary’s at 41 over par, 257. Tayah Anderson would be at 101 after the first day for Jones County’s lone golfer.
