Pierre Post 8 was inches away from an opening game win on Thursday night against Brookings, but lost 5-3 in nine innings before routed 21-7 in game two of the Bandits sweep in Pierre.
In game one, Sutton Sonnenschein opened up the bottom of the first with a lead off triple and scoring on a wild pitch as Pierre had a 1-0 lead through two innings. The Eights added another run with a Nolan Peterson RBI. Pierre held the lead until the top of the sixth when Ryder Anderson made it 2-1 and after an inning ending double play was nearly turned, Tane Friederich tied the game with a double and the game remained tied until the top of ninth. Jase Bauer brought in the go-ahead run with a one out single and Tyson Antonen added another insurance run with an RBI sac fly. Pierre got an RBI single from Cooper Terwilliger in the bottom of the ninth and had the tying run on base, but couldn’t get another hit. Will Danburg went five and 2/3 innings allowing two runs, one earned, on seven hits with four strikeouts, but did not factor into the decision.
In game two, Bauer would get a two out, solo shot in the top of the first and added another two runs in the second, four runs in the third, nine runs in the fourth and five runs in the fifth to take a 21-0 lead as the game snow balled on Pierre. The Eights did get seven runs in the bottom of the fifth as Terwilliger and Ridge Leimbach each had an RBI double while Parker O’Bryan had an RBI single and Dawson Getz had a three RBI triple, but it was too little too late. Five pitchers threw for the Eights in game two, but Pierre will need to regroup heading into Tuesday’s games against Sioux Falls East.
Pierre will travel to Sioux Falls on Tuesday to face Post 15 East in a doubleheader. Coverage will begin at 3:45 with first pitch at 4:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Dylan Simmons on the call.
