The Pierre Post 8 baseball team will host the Brookings Bandits tonight at Hyde Stadium as the 2025 senior legion season will get underway with the Eights returning plenty from 2024.
Overall from last year’s team the Eights are only unable to bring back Miles Doyle. Nolan Peterson and Grayson Hunsley return as super seniors and Brayden Houllette will return as a pitcher for the 2025 summer. But Bridger Babcock, Carter Schiefelbein, Charlie Simpson, Cooper Terwilliger, Dawson Getz, JJ Bucholz, Sutton Sonnenschein, Trevor Rounds and Ridge Leimbach all return for another summer. It also includes Hudson Stoeser, Parker O’Bryan, Will Danburg and Porter Hunsley being a part of the senior legion team after receiving plenty of playing time with the high school baseball team this spring. It’s the most continuity the senior legion team has seen since the 2021-22 summers which brings higher expectations after a nine and 10 win season the last two years. River Iverson returns for his second year as manager of the Eights. He says this is one of the first times in quite a few years they have returning seniors on the team…
Pitching is always strategic, but in the summer sometimes comes more to the forefront. Iverson says to start the summer, he hopes to not run pitch counts too high…
Iverson says hitting will be key to start the season, something Pierre struggled with during the spring season with just a .228 batting average…
Coverage of the opening night doubleheader begins at 4:45 with first pitch at 5:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
