PIERRE, (KCCR) — Drought conditions continue to show improvement in South Dakota. This week’s update of the U-S Drought Monitor for the state shows all extreme drought in the southwest corner of the state removed. Only three areas of severe drought remain. They are in southwestern and eastern Custer County; western and southeastern Fall River County and southeast Pennington, southwestern Jackson and northern Oglala Lakota County. Ziebach County is 73-percent abnormally dry while the northwestern parts of the county are drought free. Haakon County 100-percent abnormally dry with two-point-six percent moderate drought. Jackson County is unchanged this week with 41-percent in moderate and nine-percent in severe drought. Mellette, Hand, Buffalo and Jones County are 100-percent abnormally dry. Brule County. is 84-percent in moderate drought. Hughes, Stanley, Dewey, Potter, Sully, Hyde, Lyman and Tripp Counties saw no change in the last week.
