The Pierre Governor softball season would come to a close Tuesday evening as the Govs would fall 12-2 to the Harrisburg Tigers in Sioux Falls in the SoDak 16.
Pierre would fight down 4-0 after the bottom of the third to scratch two runs across to make it a 4-2 game in the top of the fourth. Elly Broers would knock a two out single into center and was miss played by the center fielder to allow Ireland Templeton to score and put Broers on third. Harrisburg had another error on a Ally Keyes hit ball to third to score Broers and cut the deficit in half. However, the Tigers would score six runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 10-2 lead and then another two runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game in five innings ending the Governors season. Seniors Noel Kist, Templeton and Broers had a hit a piece while Charlotte Hull had the other hit for the Govs. Kist would go three innings in the circle allowing six runs, all earned, on five hits with a walk and two strikeouts. McKenzi Flottmeyer would be in relief of Kist giving up six earned runs on seven hits with a strikeout over an inning and 2/3. Harrisburg hit four home runs in the win as Kennedy Kokenge had two homers while Alexis Fey and Brooklyn Haffey each had one.
Pierre’s season ends at 4-17 while Harrisburg improves to 17-2 and will open the state tournament next Thursday against the 10 seed O’Gorman who upset Brookings 10-6.
