PIERRE, (KCCR) — The City of Pierre is spending around five million dollars to replace decades-old infrastructure as a part of the Euclid Avenue reconstruction project. Five candidates running for two spots on the Pierre City Commission were asked last week about assessing some costs of the Euclid Avenue Reconstruction project back to property owners, specifically water lines from buildings to mains. Kevin Larson says decision on big projects should go beyond the Commission…
Robin Lerseth agrees in giving citizens more input…
Matthew Reitzel also agreed with letting more than the Commission decide big ticket items…
Incumbent Blake Barringer says some of the increases are written into city ordinance…
John Childs agrees that certain areas should be subject to a different manner of assessing replacement costs…
A four-dollar 50-cent charge has been applied by the City as a part of a state drinking water loan. That surcharge will be removed when the loan is paid off. The Pierre City Commission election is next Tuesday.
