The Pierre Governor tennis team had battles throughout the first day of the Class A tennis tournament and found themselves in fourth place heading into the final day of the tournament.
Doubles started the day on Monday. Both Jacob Leiferman and Lucas Hight in flight one and Noah Lueking and William Southern in flight two made the semifinals, each with an upset, but then lost in the semifinals and will compete for third place. Doubles flight three with Jacoby LaRoche and Brady Lowery lost the first match but won in the fifth place semifinals and can grab fifth on Tuesday.
In singles competition starting in flight one, Lucas Hight would win his first round matchup as the seventh seed, but then fall in the quarterfinals and will drop to the fifth place semifinals. Leiferman, the lone senior would win his quarterfinal match after dropping the first set to reach the flight two semifinals as the five seed. In flight three, Lueking would be upset in the first round, but come back to advance to the consolation championship. Lowery will also be fighting for a championship heading into day two with a quarterfinal win as the five seed. Levi Hight in flight five would win the first round match as the eight seed, but then fall to the top seed in his flight and will be in the fifth place semifinals. Rounding out the singles competition, Jacoby LaRoche in flight six would fall in the quarterfinals and will be the highest seed in the fifth place semifinals heading into the second day.
Pierre scored a 214 in day one and in fourth place. Sioux Falls Christian leads at 360, Rapid City Christian second at 328 and St. Thomas More third with 266.
