The Pierre Governor Track and Field team continued it’s great season with another record being toppled while also receiving a couple of awards at the ESD meet in Harrisburg Saturday.
Eladio Simental would get his name on the 400 meter dash with a time of 49.23 beating a record set in 1989. Pierre had three other wins on the day as Kali RIngstmeyer would win the 100 meters while Charlee Williams-Smith would win both the 200 and 400 meter runs. Williams-Smith earned the Outstanding Female Track Athlete at the event.
Other top five finishes on the boys side was Caleb Morris placing second in the 1600 meter, Lincoln Dilges in the 100 meter hurdles, Colter Babcock in the javelin and the team of Dilges, Karson Walti, Corde Austina and Carter Merrill in the 4×200 relay. Walti, Simental, Merrill and George Rapp would get third in the 4×100 while Walti was fourth in the 100 and Morris fourth in the 800. Merrill was fifth in the 200 meters. Simental was fifth in the long jump and Elijah Boutchee was fifth in the shot put.
For the girls, Josephine Wurtz, Allyson Bauer, Brooke Hansen and Ringstmeyer would get second in the 4×100 while Wurtz, Ringstmeyer, Lenix DuPris and Emlyn Swanson would get second in the 4×200. Emery Larson was third in the 3200 meter run and Swanson, DuPris, Wurtz and Williams-Smith were fourth in the 4×400 and Gwen Richter, Mason Berg, Elaina Rounds and Devyn Van Roekel were fourth in the 4×800. The Governor girls would place third as a team and the boys fifth overall.
At the meet on Saturday, Dan Synder would receive the Awar of Merit by the ESD Conference. Synder has been a part and helping the Pierre Athletic department for 35 years.
