The Pierre Governors would be upset and swept in the regional round of the playoffs on Saturday with 6-1 and 5-1 losses to the Watertown Arrows, ending their season.
Pierre would strike out 27 times in 14 innings as Kaden Rylance was dominant in game one. The South Dakota State commit had 19 strikeouts of the 21 outs recorded as Pierre had just two hits and scored an unearned run. Ridge Leimbach would pick up the loss in five and two thirds innings pitched giving up six runs, three earned, on six hits, two walks and 10 strikeouts. Watertown had two unearned runs score in the top of the first and never looked as Nash Berg had two RBIs in the win.
In game two, Hudson Stoeser had an RBI single in the top of the second as Pierre would grab a 1-0 lead. However, Nate Briggs would get a bases clearing three RBI double in the bottom of the third and Berg would make it 4-1 as the Govs allowed another four unearned runs in the inning. Mitch Olson had three hits and four on the day including two doubles as he had an RBI single in the fourth to make it 5-1. Will Danburg surrendered all five runs in six innings pitched, but all five runs were unearned on eight hits, one walk and our strikeouts. Stoeser had two hits for Pierre while Ridge Leimbach had the other hit as Talan Jurgens and Briggs combined for the win as Jurgens had seven strikeouts in six innings of work.
Pierreās season comes to an end at 17-8 as Watertown is the eighth seed and will face the top seed Harrisburg in the first game of the state tournament on Friday. Next up will be Post 8 baseball as the Eights will host the Brookings Bandits on Thursday, May 29.
