EAGLE BUTTE, (KCCR) — An Eagle Butte man has been sentenced for having child pornography in his possession. U-S Attorney Alison Ramsdell says 24 year-old Mason Benoist was sentenced by U-S District Judge Eric Schulte last week to six years in federal prison. He was indicted by a federal grand jury in January of last year and pleaded guilty in February this year. Benoist will also serve a five year supervised release term. Ramsdell says Benoist began receiving child sexual abuse materials or C-SAM in April of 2022. An investigation began with CyberTips received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. In May of 2023, investigators make contact with Benoist at his home in Eagle Butte. Benoist admitted to receiving and having C-SAM and searches of electronic devices belonging to Benoist had child pornography on them. As a part of the sentencing, Benoist will give up ownership of those electronic devices. Benoist was taken by the U-S Marshals Service to begin his sentence.
