The Pierre Governor softball team were so close to winning one all games over the weekend as they were defeated by Lincoln 6-1 and Jefferson 7-1 on Friday and then 7-2 to Roosevelt and 1-0 to Washington on Saturday.
Pierre has dropped eight straight now, but the Govs allowed just 21 runs in four games compared to 52 runs the weekend before. In game one, Ireland Templeton and Amber Roman had the lone hits as Roman stole second and Templeton scored for the Govs only run in the 6-1 loss. Charlotte Hull had the lone RBI in the 7-1 loss to Jefferson as she brought in the lone run in the top of the seventh. McKenzi Flottmeyer had two hits in the loss.
On Saturday, Templeton had the lone hit and drove in the only RBI as the Govs scored both of its runs in the top of the seventh. Templeton had the RBI on a triple and scored with an error on the same play. In the final game, Washington scored its only run in the bottom of the sixth with a two out double. Templeton again had two hits.
Overall, Pierre allowed just two unearned runs on the weekend, a big reason why they competed closely against all four Sioux Falls schools. The Govs are now 3-13 and have four games remaining. The Govs will host Brandon Valley on Tuesday with a 4:00 first pitch at Riggs.
