The Pierre Governor baseball team would get two wins over the Sturgis Scoopers on Tuesday at home to open up the final week of the season beating the Scoopers 13-1 and 14-1.
In game one, Pierre opened up a 5-0 lead as George Stalley had an RBI single and Charlie Simpson with an RBI triple in the first inning. The Govs added another two runs in the bottom of the third on a Cooper Terwilliger two run shot, his first of the season, and then Ridge Leimbach, Terwilliger and Parker O’Bryan each had two RBI hits in the fourth in a six run inning to extend the lead to 13-0. Sturgis would get its lone run in the top of the fifth, but Brennan McCullough would go five innings allowing just two hits with one unearned run with a strike out throwing just 48 pitches.
In game two, it was more of the same for the Govs as Pierre had an RBI triple from Sutton Sonnenschein in the bottom of the second to extend the Govs lead to 2-0 and led 5-0 after two. O’Bryan notched his third RBI of the day in the third and Pierre struck for seven runs in the fourth with another two RBIs from Terwilliger as he finished the day 4-4 with six RBI. Sturgis scored its lone run in the top of the fifth, another unearned run as John Neuharth would get the win on the mound going four innings of one hit baseball with two walks and two strikeouts. Bridger Babcock would give up the unearned run in the fifth on two hits.
Pierre improves to 14-5 on the season and now 13-4 in South Dakota games. The Govs close the season with home doubleheaders Friday and Saturday against Washington and Lincoln. All games are on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
