It’s been a whirlwind last couple of weeks for the Pierre community, especially for one man in particular as Grey Zabel would begin his work with the Seattle Seahawks.
Zabel was drafted with the 18th pick in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft on Thursday, April 24. After celebrating at home on Thursday and with the community on Friday, Zabel traveled out to Seattle and had his introductory press conference. The Seahawks have been marketing him well, sharing a lot of videos and interviews with him and giving a lot of publicity to their first round pick, deservedly so. When he arrived in Seattle, Zabel was the one on the phone calling Mason Richman to tell him he was going to be the 234th pick in the draft to Seahawks. But being an offensive lineman, you don’t see that very often. It’s usually the quarterbacks, receivers and skill position players who get talked about and not the lineman. As for 74, he will now be 76. Steve Hutchinson wore the number from 2001-2005 for the Seahawks and is a Hall of Famer. Zabel says it wasn’t his idea to take the number, but he made sure to have approval…
Zabel has already had workouts with the Seahawks with the next step in the NFL process being the NFL schedule release on Wednesday May 14. OTAs will begin at the end of May with the mandatory minicamp from June 17-19 and training camp starting in July.
