
PIERRE, (KCCR) — Drought has improved across parts of central South Dakota this week. A severe thunderstorm Sunday night that dropped three-and-a-half inches of rain across parts of Lyman County. Moderate drought went from 85-percent to 22-percent while severe drought has been eliminated. Northern Tripp County is now abnormally dry as a result of that same storm. Severe drought fell in Tripp County to seven-percent from 16 and moderate drought is now 78-percent of the county; from 100-percent last. Mellette County went from 99-percent severe drought to none. It’s now fully in moderate drought. Severe drought in Stanley County fell 65-percent this week with moderate drought rolling back to 90-percent from 97. Severe drought is all but eliminated from Haakon, Ziebach, Jones and Potter Counties. The worst drought is severe drought in southwest Jackson and Tripp Counties and a lobe from northern Stanley County north into most of Dewey County. Statewide, severe drought fell 23-percent and moderate drought 26-percent.
