FORT PIERRE, (KCCR) — Ward II voters in Fort Pierre have sent Callie Iverson back to the Fort Pierre City Council. Iverson defeated challenger Michael Jacobson 49-28. Ward II has 526 registered voters and of those 485 are active voters. Of that 485, only 77 took time to cast a ballot at the Pat Duffy Community and Youth Involved Center for a voter turnout percentage of 15-point-eight-seven percent. Iverson was first elected to the Fort Pierre City Council in 2021 and was unchallenged in 2023. Iverson will begin her third two-year term in May. The election marked the final April municipal election for Fort Pierre. Starting July first, all South Dakota elections will have to be held during the primary or general election periods of June or November. The change comes about as a result of passage of House Bill 1130 during the 2025 Legislative session. Sponsored by Representative Will Mortenson of Fort Pierre, H-B 1130 looks to improve voter turn out in small elections by connecting them to larger ones.
