
PIERRE, (KCCR) — The Unified Judicial System is warning Stanley County residents of a scam using the Stanley County Sheriff’s Office for a backdrop. The scam is a jury duty scam that tells callers the falsely missed a federal jury duty call and that a two-thousand dollars warrant has been issued for the individuals arrest. The Stanley County Sheriff’s Office says over 30 of the calls had been reported Thursday. The calls are coming from multiple numbers with scammers leaving call back numbers, claiming to be Sheriff’s Office staff. A scam email was also reported that included the official Stanley County Sheriff’s Office logo. The scammers are telling potential victims to visit local convenience stores and send money via Bitcoin. One person was lost four-thousand dollars to the scam. If you received such a contact, do not provide any contact information or payment information. South Dakota courts do not call possible jurors or ask for money or identifying information.
