Team South Dakota 16U Girls would open up its Tier II USA Hockey National Tournament with an overtime loss 2-1 to South Pittsburgh Rebellion on Wednesday.
Team SD would be scored on first, late in the second period going down 1-0. The game would remained at 1-0 until the final two minutes when South Dakota would pull goalie Kira Reppe of Watertown. It would lead to Watertown’s Harper Hendricks scoring the tying goal with 1:15 left from Watertown’s Emma Schleusner and Brookings’ Sawyer Triplett. It sent the game to overtime where Pittsburgh would win with five minutes remaining in overtime. Team South Dakota gets a point in the loss which could be beneficial after Friday’s pool play games are completed. Reppe made 26 saves on 28 shots.
Team SD will face the California Goldrush at 2:15 on Thursday. California lost 3-1 to Iadho Jr. Steelheads in their first game.
