The Lyman Raiders were unable to get the win in the first round of the Class B state tournament with a 53-40 loss to the Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Blackhawks on Thursday.
The Raiders trailed by just four points after the first half and it remained a four point game heading into the fourth. The Raiders claimed the lead 33-31 midway in the fourth, but the Blackhawks went on a 7-0 spurt and never relinquished the lead. Sanborn Central/Woonsocket hit their free throws down the stretch and extinguished the Raiders chance at a Class B state title. Liz Boschee led all scorers for the Blackhawks scoring 23 points as Alexa Goertz had 13. Mak and Jordyn Scott each had double figures for the Raiders as Mak had 13 and Jordyn 10 as Lyman falls for just the fourth time all season and are now 19-4 on the season. Sanborn Central/Woonsocket is now 21-3 and will face the seven seed Dell Rapids St. Mary in the state semifinals on Friday.
Lyman will play the second seed Harding County, who lost for the first time all season, in the consolation semifinal on Friday. Tip off from the Huron Arena is at 1:45.
