Tonight the Pierre Governors start its journey in the state tournament with a trip to Rapid City and face the two seed Brandon Valley in the first round of the tournament.
The Governors would get a seven point win in the SoDak 16 over Harrisburg and will face a team who they lost to at home 59-43 back in late January. The Govs did lead in the third quarter of that game. Brandon Valley is 18-2 on the season while the Governors are now 13-8. Lennix DuPris and Emery Larson lead the Governors in scoring with DuPris with 18 points per game and Larson at 14.1. Brandon Valley is led by Alyvia Padgett’s 19.1 points per game while also Evie Hoff averages 11.2 and Ava Kellenberger has 10 per game. As good as what Brandon Valley does offensively, their defense plays a big part into it and Kirk Beebout, head coach of the Governors says they need to be ready right from the opening tip…
Five seniors are on the varsity roster for the Governors and for some of them, they have been a part of state tournament teams over the last three years. Grace Richter says it’s exciting to get back for a third straight year…
Addison Soma echoes the statement…
Gracelyn Taylor says they proved a lot of people wrong making the state tournament…
Beebout says it’s key to take it possession by possession…
Tip off from the Monument in Rapid City is at 7:00 Central time tonight. Coverage will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Dylan Simmons on the call.
