Friday night the Sully Buttes Chargers showed no signs of rust after not playing for almost a week, and downed the North Central Thunder 65-34 to close out the regular season.
Sully Buttes was firing on all cylinders right out of the gate, leading 20-10 after the first quarter, and 36-16 at the half. In the third quarter the Chargers hit the 30 point gap to enact the continuous clock, and emptied their bench to finish the regular season at 15-4.
The Chargers started their four seniors on Senior Night and Eli Mercer got into a hot zone, scoring 18 points with four threes to his credit. Junior Gavin Colson added 15, while the team leading scorer, Wesley Wittler, played very little in the second half, but still finished with 13 points.
The Chargers passed their way around the Thunder’s 2-3 zone to find the basket throughout the night, and on the defensive end, cut off North Central’s path to the low post, and kept the pressure on along the perimeter as well. The Thunder were led by Zane Haar, who scored 10 points. The Thunder also ended their regular season Friday night, finishing 7-13.
Sully Buttes will be the top seed in Region 6B, and host the winner of a Monday night play in game on Tuesday. You can catch the action on Country 95.3FM with DT Meyer on the call. You can also hear it on pierrecountry.com, and watch on YouTube at Country 95.3 sports.
