Both Pierre Governor basketball teams would get wins on Tuesday on the road as the girls would beat Harrisburg 53-40 while the Governor boys would hang out to beat Yankton 49-47.
The Governor girls would jump out to a quick lead and while Harrisburg stormed back, Pierre was able to hold the Tigers at bay for their sixth win of the season as the Tigers continue the downward trend to fall to 6-7. Pierre was led by Lennix DuPris’s 20 points on the evening. Gracelyn Taylor also dropped in 14 as the two Governors in double figures for the night. Makinley Lawrenson had 12 to pace the Tigers who fall for the fourth straight game.
The Governor boys had to hang on in the final seconds in Yankton to improve to 5-6 on the season when Owen Eidsness missed a free throw with one second remaining going 1-3 from the line on a three point shooting foul to try and tie the game. The Govs had a seven point halftime lead be cut to a one point lead, but never trailed after the early parts of the game. Dawson Getz led all scorers with 15 points while Luke Olson had 14 as the two were the only double figure scorers from either team. After Eidsness missed the second shot, he purposedly missed the third but Yankton fouled and Pierre’s inbound went down the court and touched by both Pierre and Yankton and the Bucks never would get a shot away.
Next up for Pierre is a girls game on Friday and Saturday hosting Yankton and traveling to Tea while the boys will be off until next Tuesday when they host Huron. Games are on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
