Capitals Fall Late in Loss to Mitchell

The Oahe Capitals battled back from a 2-0 deficit after the first period at home on Saturday against the Mitchell Marlins, but would fall 5-4 in a heart breaker in a game which had a lot of state tournament implication.

The Marlins and Capitals are in the midst of a battle with Watertown for the final two state tournament spots, but the Caps have found themselves 0-2 against the two teams. Dylan Dodson scored both goals in the second period. Ayden Behm scored to tie the game at 3-3 and Keegan Kitts tied the game at 4-4 with just under four minutes remaining in the third. But Parker Denne, the leading scorer for the Marlins would get his first and only goal of the game with 2:44 remaining and even with a 5-on-3 with a 1:59 left in the period, the Caps were unable to score. Jaxon Jungwirth made 44 saves on 49 shots in the loss.

Oahe falls to 6-9 while Mitchell improves to 6-5-0-1 and is one point ahead of the Caps. Oahe and Mitchell will battle again next Saturday after the Caps host Aberdeen on Friday. Both games will be on Capital City Rock and on YouTube at Capital City Rock Sports.
