The Pierre Governor boys and girls basketball teams would each get wins on Tuesday night with the girls hanging on for a 56-55 win and the boys knocking off the Golden Eagles 62-51.
In the girls game, Gracelyn Taylor was a force on defense, Taylor had over 10 steals while Aberdeen Central turned the ball over 20 times. Pierre had just 10 turnovers. The Govs came back from a short deficit in the fourth and built a nine point lead when the Golden Eagles turned it over on seven straight possessions. The Golden Eagles got it down to three and missed a tying shot before Taryn Hermansen put it back up for two as time expired holding the Govs to a one point victory. Lennix DuPris would lead all scorers with 28 points while Emery Larson had 13 and Taylor had just four points offensively. Hermansen had the team high 23 points and Emma Dohrer had 13 for the now 7-4 Golden Eagles. Pierre improves to 5-4 in the win.
The Governor boys would go on the road for the third straight game and ended up at 2-1 in the stretch with the 11 point win on Tuesday night. Luke Olson and Dawson Getz had excellent shooting nights as Olson dropped in a game high 29 points while Getz had 17 to help improve the Governors to 4-6. Aberdeen Central falls to 2-9 with the loss and were led by Jacob Weishaar’s 15 points and Brendon Phillips’ 14. The Golden Eagles have loss four straight.
The Governors will both have tough challenges ahead this weekend as the Governor girls will travel to O’Gorman on Friday while the boys will be at home to face Harrisburg on Friday and O’Gorman on Saturday. Both boys games will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Dylan Simmons on the call.
