Charger Boys Roll to Victory over Pirates, Wittler Scores 1000th Point

In a physical game the Sully Buttes Charger boys took care of business, as they defeated the Highmore Harrold Pirates 71-46 Thursday night at the Hyde County Auditorium.

Junior Wesley Wittler hit for 20 points in the game, and surpassed the 1000 point mark for his career for the Chargers. Wittler joined numerous former Charger players, including his brother Nick and sister Stevie, who also achieved that point mark wearing the purple and gold.

The game also had its physical moments, as both teams scrapped in the low post for rebounding and loose balls. And from behind the arc both teams drained threes, nine total for Highmore Harrold and six for Sully Buttes.

The Pirates, now 1-5, were led in scoring by Aiden Ferens 17 points with Brooks McPeak adding 14 and Caleb Roth with 10.

Besides Wittlers’ game leading 20, Eli Mercer and Teghan Westpahl each added 15 for the 3-2 Chargers.

Next up for Sully Buttes is another road game, as they travel to Ipswich to take on the Tigers on Tuesday, while the Pirates travel to Faulkton Tuesday to face the Trojans.
