Capitals Use Week Break for Annual Nutcracker Cup

The Oahe Capitals boys varsity team has started a tradition that dates back to 2020, the Nutcracker Cup. It’s a chance for the varsity team to split up into smaller teams along with alumni to come back and play in a quick two day tournament.

This year, the event would run on Thursday and Friday, December 26-27. The four captains split up into three teams to draft the players from both JV and varsity along with selected alumni and coaches playing a round robin tournament with a quick bracket to determine the champion. Teams were split up to Team Bridger Babcock, Team Dylan Dodson and Team Keegan Kitts and Jaxon Jungwirth. Landon Badger, head coach of the Capitals, says its an exciting week of the year when the tournament comes around…

While there is some smack talking being done, Badger says it’s still a great chance for these players to learn from the former players…

The coaches get to participate in the tournament and Badger jokingly admits there’s some pressure on the coaching staff to perform at a high level…

The Capitals will resume the season on January 4 and 5 against Sioux Falls teams at home.
