Sully Buttes Boys And Girls Basketball Falls To Wolsey/Wessington Saturday Night

WOLSEY, (KCCR) — In what looked like rusty teams coming in off of the holiday moratorium, the Sully Buttes Charger girls and boys basketball teams came out with different results in Wolsey Saturday night. The Charger girls played down to the competition against a winless Wolsey Wessington team, but still came away with a 42-32 victory to open the doubleheader. In the boys game, the Chargers faced an undefeated Warbird squad, and ice cold shooting did them in, as Wolsey Wessington dropped the Chargers to their second loss in a row 53-44. The Charger girls led 18-9 at the half, but were outscored 19-15 in the second half, but notched their 3rd victory against two losses. Wolsey Wessington was tripped up by 23 turnovers in the game, to drop their record to 0-3. Payge Bakker led all scorers with 16 points while fellow senior Olivia Olson showed spark, and finished with 13 points. Shae Uttecht led the Warbirds with nine points.

The Charger boys trailed 27-20 at halftime, and went cold from the field, and the Warbird boys kept the pace fast, allowing Sully Buttes a one shot and out trip down the floor. Wolsey Wessington had their share of turnovers as well, but outscored Sully Buttes 26-24, to move to 3-0 on the season. The Chargers drop to 1-2 on the year. Top scorer for Sully Buttes once again was Wesley Wittler, finishing with 14, and was the only scorer in double figures. Wolsey Wessington saw senior Moshe Richmond net 16 points, and brother Caleb Rishmond added ten. Next up for the Chargers is another doubleheader Monday–this time at home, as the Chargers face the Philip Scotties. Game time is slated for 5:15 for the Charger girls for the varsity, with the boys game to follow. Those games can be heard on Country 95.3FM, pierrecountry.com, and on Youtube at Country 95.3 Sports.
