The Pierre Governors would split the two games on the weekend with a 65-38 win on Friday over Sturgis, but would fall 62-45 on Saturday to Spearfish as they go into the break at 2-2.
On Friday, the Govs dominated the Scoopers to a 29 point victory being led by Lennix DuPris with 22 points. Emery Larson also finished in double figures with 12. Gracelyn Taylor had nine, Grace Richter had seven and Addison Soma had three.
However, the Govs were unable to finish off the weekend undefeated as the Spearfish Spartans, who are ranked fifth into the AA poll was able to move to 2-1 on the season. The Spartans played a triple overtime game on Friday, losing to Aberdeen Central 66-64, but didn’t show any fatigue, coming back to win by 17 over the Governors.
Pierre finishes 2024 at 2-2 and will next travel to Bismarck to face the Demons. Tip off of the varsity game on Saturday, January 4 will be at 3:00.
