Governor Boys Swept in Trip Out West

The Pierre Governor boys team would fall in both games to Sturgis and Spearfish on the road this weekend with a 55-52 loss to Sturgis and 62-46 to Spearfish.

The Scoopers were led by Hayden Rock for their first win of the season finishing with 27 points. Ryan Heinert had 12 points and 10 rebounds for Sturgis. Dawson Getz had 14 for the Govs while Eladio Simental had 12 and Corde Austin having 10. Luke Olson got a lay up with 25 seconds remaining to cut the score to 53-52, but two made free throws as Sturgis went 6-6 from the line and Olson missed the game tying three with just a second left.

Then on Saturday, the Govs were led by Olson and Getz who each had 15 points. Carter Scheifelbein had seven. Spearfish had Cade Vavruska scoring 21 to lead all players while Dylan Doren had 15 for the Spartans. The Spartans and Govs played close in the first half, but the separation kept growing as the game wore on in favor of Spearfish.

The Govs are 2-2 at the end of 2024 and will host Bismarck to start 2025. Tip off is at 3:00 in Pierre on Saturday, January 4.
