Overall Very Few Issues Discovered From Post Election Audits

PIERRE, (KCCR) — Very few issues were discovered in the 2024 general election. The South Dakota Secretary of States office this week released a statewide view of post-election audits conducted in counties across the state in November. Secretary of State Monae Johnson says the audits generally revealed only minor discrepancies which were typically only a difference of a vote or two. Among central South Dakota counties, no discrepancies were found in Brule, Buffalo, Dewey, Haakon, Jones, Lyman, Mellette, Potter, Stanley, Sully, Tripp and Ziebach. One discrepancy was noted in Hand County where officials believed a mark on a ballot was too light to be read by a tabulator. Hughes County had two discrepancies, believed to be ballots being placed in a wrong box. Hyde County reported two discrepancies, believed to be human error and Jackson County was 100-percent correct in one precinct with a second precinct off by two votes.
