Capitals Set for Season with Plenty Returning

The Oahe Capitals girls varsity team is set for the start of the 2024-25 season with all but two returning from last year’s team due to graduation. The Capitals are looking to build off its fourth place finish last season.

Overall, the Capitals have every single goal and point returning other than 10. Both Cami Larson and Alayna Youngbluth have graduated, but the Capitals get back goalie Sophia Peschong who had eight wins last year and also return the team’s top goal scorer in Brylee Kafka who finished with 23 goals and led the team with 27 points. Oahe went 8-5-1-0 placing fourth in the standings and also finished fourth in the state tournament. Jim Wedin, head coach of the Oahe Capitals says heading into the season, there’s a lot of excitement…

Wedin says he expects this team to be one of the deepest in the state…

This year, teams will play each other three times which means there will be plenty of back-to-backs to avoid extra travel. While there multiple ways it can be useful and advantages of it, there still can be some challenges to overcome, especially in this first year of the new format…

The Capitals open the season with a back-to-back on a weekend road trip to Rapid City to face the Rushmore Thunder Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Both games will be on Capital City Rock and on YouTube at Capital City Rock Sports.
