Reported Gas Drive-Off Leads To Third Offense Drunk Driving Arrest For Sioux Falls Man In Pierre

PIERRE, (KCCR) — Pierre police arrested a Sioux Falls man in the Capital City Saturday night for allegedly getting gas and not paying for it. Pierre Police Captain Dusty Pelle says officers were called around eight-pm to the 500 block of West Sioux Avenue for a reported theft. Officers learned that the suspect, identified by police as 25 year-old Andrew Dejong had fueled a vehicle and left without paying for the gas. Officers located Dejong a short time later near the intersection of Wells and Harrison Avenues in Pierre. Investigating officers determined Dejong not only had a suspended driver’s license, but an active Minnehaha County warrant. Officers also learned Dejong had been consuming alcohol, but refused to take part in a field sobriety test. Officers transported Dejong to the Hughes County Jail on the Minnehaha County warrant, but charged him with multiple counts including Driving on a Suspended License; Petty Theft; and based on officer observations, a third offense Driving Under the Influence charge.
