Hughes County Voters Follow Statewide Trends During Election

PIERRE, (KCCR) — Donald Trump won South Dakota overall in Tuesday’s general election and won Hughes County with 63-percent of the counties voters. Dusty Johnson pulled 75-percent of Hughes County voters while Kristie Fiegen in her race for the Public Utilities Commission won 72-percent of Hughes County. Amendment E lost in Hughes County with 54-percent of votes against updating gender references for certain officeholders. Voters in Hughes County favored a work requirement for eligible expanded Medicaid participants by 55-percent. Hughes County rejected Amendment G to establish the right to abortion by 57-percent. Hughes County voters said no to open primaries by 64-percent and no to eliminating the tax on items sold for human consumption by 77-percent. That was better than the state percentage of 73-percent. Hughes County rejected recreational marijuana by 57-percent and said no to the Landowner Bill of Rights with Referred Law 21 with 56-percent of voters.
