PIERRE, (KCCR) — A handful of central South Dakota county races were decided in Tuesday’s general election. The first race determined was for a single county commission seat in Hyde County. Republican Tod Kroeplin defeated Independent Charles Hamlin 94 to 45 or 68-percent to 32-percent. In Mellette County, Independent Kriby Krogman beat out fellow Independent Michael Strain 357 to 343 for a 51-to-49-percent margin States Attorney. Independent Wesley Schmidt won a three man race for a county commission seat in Mellette County. Schmidt’s opponents William Huber and Casey Krogman, both also Independent candidates, scored 53 votes each. Schmidt had 111 to take the win with 51-percent of the vote to 24-percent for Huber and Krogman. Democrat Bill Henderson and Independent David Pesicka won two at-large county commission seats in Ziebach County with 32 and 24-percent of the vote respectively. As of midnight, county commission races in Haakon and Dewey Counties were not decided.
