South Dakota Mourns Loss Of Former U-S Senator Tim Johnson

PIERRE, (KCCR) — The last Democrat to hold a statewide office in South Dakota has died. Former U-S Senator Tim Johnson passed away Wednesday at the age of 77. Current U-S Senator John Thune says Johnson was a fighter for what he felt was right…

Johnson ran for the South Dakota legislation in 1978, serving four years in the House and another four years in the Senate. He was elected to the U-S House in 1986 and served five terms before running for the U-S Senate 10 years later. He defeated Thune in 2002 by a 500 vote margin. Flags in South Dakota have been ordered to half-staff in honor of Johnson’s service to the state.
