PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Pierre T-F Riggs senior has been selected as a semifinalist for the National Merit Scholarship Program. Campbell Cronin has been nominated for the program that honors individual students who demonstrate outstanding academic ability and potential to succeed in rigorous college course work. Cronin is one of 41 South Dakota students selected as a semifinalist. Over 16-thousand students across the country have been nominated as a semifinalist for the honor. Cronin will have the opportunity to compete for over 68-hundred National Merit Scholarships worth over 26-million dollars to be offered in the spring of 2025. To become a finalist, Cronin will need to fulfill several requirements. Approximately 95-percent of semifinalist advance to become a Finalist. About half of those will win a National Merit Scholarship and earn the title of Merit Scholar. Every Finalist will compete for one of 25-hundred National Merit 25-hundred dollar Scholarships, awarded on a state-representation basis. National Merit Scholarship winners for 2025 will be announced between April and July of next year.
