Navy Crew Impressed After Visit To Ship’s Namesake City

PIERRE, (KCCR) — The first, of what will likely be many, crew visits to Pierre by sailors on the U-S-S Pierre happened last week in the Capital City. Commander Justin Guernsey, Command Senior Chief Aaron Bugler and Weapons Officer Lt. Marshal Van Gundy each had their own take on the visit..

Guernsey says crew visits are an important tradition in the Navy…

The Commander says they did research Pierre some before coming to the city…

Bugler says they are looking forward to bringing other members of the 70-plus crew to visit…

One crew trip is funded every fiscal year so another trip may be possible in the near future. Among the activities the crew took part in was a flotilla down the Missouri River, meeting the Governor and autographing the inside of the State Capitol dome.
