PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Pierre man has been identified as the man killed in a single vehicle crash in Pennington County last week. According to a release from the South Dakota Highway Patrol, 73 year-old John Whaley was driving a 1929 Ford Model A west on Interstate 90 near mile marker 110 when it left the roadway to the left. Whaley over corrected the vehicle causing it to cross the shoulder, enter the north ditch and roll over. Whaley was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
The Patrol has also released the name of a man killed in a two-vehicle semi crash in Haakon County last Wednesday. A 2001 Freightliner driven by 59 year-old Jose Antonio Perez Martinez of Humble, Texas has stalled in the driving lane of Highway 34 seven miles south of Bridger or 34 miles northeast of Phillip. A second Freightliner, driven by 25 year-old Gianny Garcia of Fort Myers Florida struck the back of Martinez’ semi. Garcia died from injuries in the crash. A passenger in the stalled semi, 51 year-old Nolberto Hernandez was not injured.
