PIERRE, (KCCR) — State and Tribal law enforcement officials celebrated the graduation of the first Tribal Prioritized Law Enforcement Training Academy. The course is much like a typical law enforcement academy in that it is 13 weeks long and covers basics like instruction in the law, arrest control tactics, firearms, emergency vehicle operation and investigating crimes. Eight of the 21 graduates were from Tribal reservations. Jackley says with officers on and near reservations in the class they were able to establish relationships to help them in the future. Officers from Pierre, Stanley County and the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe were among those in the clase.
