KCCR-AM To Go Off Air Saturday For Tower Maintenance

PIERRE, (KCCR) — Pierre radio station K-C-C-R. 1240-AM will be off air for much of the day on Saturday. The station will be down so maintenance can take place on the K-C-C-R tower located on Isaac Walton Road in southeast Pierre. A tower crew will be repainting the 200-foot tall structure and repairing the tower’s obstruction lighting. In March, the tower’s top beacon went dark, which is a Federal Communications Commission violation. A series of Notice To Airman or NOTAM’s have been issued, as required by federal law, since then to alert pilots to the possible risk of not being able to see the tower at night. A supply chain issue delay has prevented the work from taking place any sooner, waiting on a more quality paint to become available before starting the work. K-C-C-R is expected to return to the airways by Saturday evening. Riverfront Broadcasting appreciates the public’s patience while the maintenance is conducted. Being off air will also impact translator 98-point-nine-FM as a translator can only simulcast an existing station and not originate programming.
