PIERRE, (KCCR) — The South Dakota Department of Transportation will begin chip sealing operations across central South Dakota Monday. The work will consist of three phases, chip seal, fog seal and flush sealing. The operations will take place depending on weather conditions. The work will start on U-S Highway 14 from two miles east of Blunt for 13 miles to the Hughes and Hyde County line. The work will them move to South Dakota Highway 34 from just east of Pierre to 14 miles east of Pierre, ending at 308th Avenue. South Dakota Highway 47 will get treated from U-S Highway 212 north to the south edge of Hoven for 10 miles. Highway 34 will see work to the west with work taking place from South Dakota Highway 73 near Billsburg to South Dakota Highway 63 north at Four Corners. U-S Highway 83, south of Fort Pierre will see work for 22 miles of it’s 32 mile length in both direction. The work will end where it started on Highway 14 in Pierre from Garfield Avenue, east for 14 miles. On two-lane highways, traffic will be reduced to a single lane with pilot car. Divided highways will be reduced to a single lane in a direction.
